[Discussion] Frustration collecting signatures

Pete from MI Legalize here!

You're absolutely right; people's laziness and apathy are unbelievable. What really gets me is when people respond "oh, I'd sign that" but keep walking away... whaaaa? You would sign that, but don't have 30 seconds to give so that someone else can do all the hard work for you? Are you walking towards the hospital, where a life-saving organ transplant just became available? Yeeeaaarrrgghh!

Whew, glad I got that out of me :)

You absolutely have the right idea; don't let those losers who don't care about anyone, even themselves get you down, and don't waste any time trying to convince them to do what's right... in that same time, you could get 5 awesome people who will lift your spirits to sign instead! "No" just means "next," so don't burden yourself thinking about their motivations; just keep fighting the good fight, and take solace in knowing that you're better than that, way better!

You sound like a model petitioner! Getting people to register to vote is SWEET, I'm gonna have to make you a merit badge or something! At the 311 concert, we were luckily placed next to a tent run by Head Count, a voter registration group... we probably sent them 15 people to register, solely because they wanted to sign our petition, talk about a great coincidence!

Whenever people tell me they're not registered to vote, I tell them that hey, I understand, keeping track of politicians is a full time job, and often only leaves you with the choice to vote for the lesser of two evils, but people always forget that there are other things on the ballot than candidates, such as voting to ban wolf hunting, fracking, or, best of all, legalizing marijuana! If they are the type that cares enough to vote, but not enough to be educated on politics (I was one of them for 32 years), then that argument should make sense to them, and likely motivate them to help out.

Keep up the great work!
