Does anyone else get infuriated by the way Tom sets up his kit? Is there a reason for this or does he just like his drums to be set up in the most ridiculous way possible?...

Not everyone has to play drums the way you play your drums.

Even if there were no reason to set up your kit in this unorthodox fashion, it shouldn’t matter. I think it’s weird too, I would never do it. However, he can play how he wants and he’s obviously used to the weird setup because he continues to use it.

I personally think it’s badass and cool too. It shows he’s creative and EXPERIMENTS. We get so caught up in the way things “normally” are that we forget that things don’t always have to be so uniform. He thought outside the box and created a setup that catered to what he likes, and probably his gripes with the standard drum setup.

If I were to guess, his cymbal is set up that way because he likes how it sounds, maybe the way the stick hits it from that angle? He extends his arm all the way to hit it, and maybe there’s something to that and the way the stick hits it. Also since it’s so far away I’m sure he only uses it when he REALLY needs to. As far as the snare, idk. Some of Alex’s songs move across the toms and snare pretty fast (rules at the end, poison root, Adam). Maybe the angle helps or something.

Sorry to be annoying but I really don’t see the point in being so judgemental about some other dude’s drum setup. It works and he kills it, I don’t see why it matters. The drummer is the only thing Alex has had to replace multiple times, and his current drummer Tom has been his drummer for awhile now so he seems to be holding up.
