People won't get deported unless they are violent criminals esp. repeat offenders

Deportation is meant to show a message that crossing the border will not necessarily make your problems go away

People smuggling i.e. human trafficking is a serious issue and usually involves the rape of almost any woman who crosses the border hence why they want to show crossing the border is not worth it

Most of the drugs come in through the Southern border, these drugs kill thousands of Americans every year, and we need to decrease the appetite for drugs by keeping penalties against possession etc..

Other nationalities (this includes middle eastern terrorists) will usually come in through the southern border.
