Gloves while cycling?

Since you asked:

  1. It's retarded to engage in a sport where injury (including concussions) occurs that often. And you kept at it after you had an almost life threatening injury? Do you know what they say about people who do things twice and expect different results? (Note: I have the same opinion on other dangerous sports, such as football and cheer leading). Also, I think bike racing is so fucking stupid I'd rather not be a player or spectator. I'd rather take a gun to the face than wear lycra.

  2. Idiots like you make regular people not want to bike commute, because they hear about accidents caused by racing. Then, it takes years for people like me to convince friends/coworkers that biking can be 100% safe, no accidents, etc. Thanks for keeping the number of bike commuters in the US low! s/

  3. The racing influence also bleeds out onto the road, where idiot racing cyclists blow through read lights, almost run over pedestrians at sidewalks, and get in front of cars for no reason other than to make sure they "keep their pace" for their stupid Strava app or whatever.

  4. Not sure what you do for a living, but I work as a technical writer. So any injuries to my hands/head could put me out of a career. You falsely call that "living life," I call it safeguarding my livelihood. Weeks of not being able to do something as basic as writing would be something I could never afford. And if you make money competing in bike races, then refer back to #2 and #3 above.

  5. I'd much rather engage in activities that are not only better for my health, but less risky too. I run, hike, climb mountains, play soccer, lift weights, surfing, etc. Plenty of sports out there to engage in that don't result in the potential for horrific injuries that often. Worst I've had is muscle soreness.

So do what you want, "live life" as you call it. I'll be on my commuter bike, espousing the benefits of cycling over driving, and trying to make up for all the collateral damage people like you cause.
