Whenever people ask me what I listen to, I say "a little bit of old-school everything." Meaning, some of everything from:

  • Country (Outlaw Country - Willie Nelson, Sturgill Simpson [<--more obscure], What I refer to as 90's country: Trace Adkins, Montgomery Gentry, Travis Tritt, Brooks & Dunn, the old Toby Keith, Bluegrass, etc. I realize it's not all '90's' but I just call it that because it's what I grew up on)

  • Funk/Jazz/Soul (What would you put Victor Wooten, Marcus Miller, and Stanley Clarke into?... Parliament, Bootsie Collins, Smokey Robinson, George Benson, Marvin Gaye, The Spinners, etc.)

  • EDM: Dubstep (Excision, Datsik, Doctor P, Torus, Getter), Post-Funk (KilParis, Koan Sound) DNB (Eptic), Hardstyle (My friend loves cranking some hardstyle, I usually jam along but I don't know anything in particular), Techno (Darude - Sandstorm?)

  • Old school Hip-Hop (All the cliches, really: Run DMC, Beastie Boys, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, 2pac, Compton's Most Wanted)

  • Metal (FFDP, [is SoaD metal, or something more obscure?], Ozzy Osbourne, etc.)

  • Classic Rock (LedZep, Bad Company, Jimi Hendrix, Rainbow, The Who, Thin Lizzy, James Gang, Foghat, The Police, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Rolling Stones, CCR, Boston, Foreigner, etc.) Blues (George Thorogood, Stevie Ray Vaughan, etc.)

  • Swing (Loves me some Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Bing Crosby, Tony Bennett, etc.)

Worthy Mentions:

  • Getaway People

  • Jamiroquai

*Tech n9ne (Notably - Dwamn, because it cracks me up every time I hear it)

TL;DR: When I say I listen to "a little bit of everything," I try to mean a little bit of everything. I'm terrible with identifying and distinguishing genres, because I don't ever pick music by them. I look at bands/groups/artists, first, then find a general name for it. You can clearly see that's what I did here. I realize there are thousands of other genres and subgenres, but I only tried to name the biggest categories.

The only things I would opt out of are screamo, punk rock, and [modern] rap, because I just don't feel it with those.
