Hey, I’m getting into woodworking, can anyone recommend a nice spokeshave brand/product

You don’t see the point- but I do (although I admit they are insanely expensive even at $135).

Not long ago I bought a 151 off eBay. It was clean and looked in good shape. What I didn’t know is that I didn’t get a working tool but a Frankenshave. Some of these sellers buy lots and selling the shaves as separate parts. It didn’t fit well. It came with a fake cap bolt. Guess what - these bolts aren’t manufactured anymore. First I didn’t know the “secret”. Then I understood why the seller made a makeshift bolt….

Long story short, my friend had an old shave and gave me the bolt. But no matter what I did (sharpening, honing, smoothing) this tool never worked well. Yes it got better after my efforts (at first couldn’t be used) but there was always persistent chatter.

Now the question is how long do you want to play with nonmatching threads and caps that once belonged to a different tool? I could spend my time much better working on the table legs. What has been achieved and what exactly did I save?
