How about no!

  1. Detaching you from your car does not, in fact, give you more time to concentrate. It does sound a little counter-intuitive but since the days of double-clutching which definitely was a pain in the ass be attached to your car's operation has it's advantages.

  2. Most texting accidents seem to happen at lower speeds, usually from the texter rear-ending someone. forcing them to put a little more work into slowing down can definitely remove a good portion of these accidents. Like you said though, people suck at driving regardless and they will find ways to do it that won't even occur to anyone else.

  3. You may have just died if you turned the engine off. Bye bye power steering. And you and I know to do that because we understand what neutral does, many people don't even use neutral, they only use park, reverse, and drive.

  4. Same as above, people just don't get it. Also, I mainly and poorly mentioning that many times an automatic car stalls that's it, game over. You can sometimes get a manual car to start up again, if only for a short while or a long one.

  5. Yea, I was talking about the whole letting off the brake causes the car to accelerate thing. I've never felt comfortable with the whole notion of my stopping pedal making me move faster, and it's a bitch to brake when light pressure won't actually stop the vehicle. It's no wonder so many people roll stop signs.

  6. Again, do you think people actually know that their car has the option to be "manually" downshifted? On top of that, do you think that they're going to be able to perform that operation in a tight spot? Sure they might know if you asked them, but in a panic they won't remember.

  7. Let's say your car can go 150km/h. Gas pedal pressure from 0% to 100% takes you 150km/h. Now hop in a manual and floor it in first gear and you might make it to 60km/h if you have a really long first gear but you'll be bouncing off the limiter the whole way there. What this means is that that 0% to 100% pressure controls a narrower range of speeds and that allows for far easier fine control. I actually hate driving auto in the city, much prefer my car but then again I don't live in Toronto or New York. Then again, neither do most people.

  8. Drive by wire is a real pain, for both transmissions. But that's just one bit, the rest comes with it deciding when it wants to shift whether you like it or not, usually rather sluggishly because to be fair, it can't read a person's mind. I like being in control of major functions of my car that directly relate to my well being because I think I might know a thing or two more about what's going on better than a car which is programmed to guess and pray it's read the signs correctly.

  9. I was a bit unsure of putting that in there but I decided that you don't exactly plan to have accident. If you do well, they just aren't accidents now are they?

  10. That was mostly a blanket statement to avoid putting in more objective things like personal enjoyment and the fact that, like I mentioned earlier, they become so detached from the drive that they only know how to drive when conditions are perfect. I also said it because I don't think going on, and on, and on, and on would really further my point any. I sure as shit wouldn't want to read all that, why make you do it?

  11. Thanks for actually giving me a proper response, one guy just said "No....".
