The picture was taken maybe an hour after a shower when my hair is half air dried. I have fine hair but a lot of it. I seem to only get waves on the underside of my hair by my neck.

I use Shea moisture shampoo and conditioner. Once I week I will put oil on my ends. Usually that’s all I use because I’m lazy. When I do attempt to get my waves to come out I use the bowl method and not your mother’s curl cream and then let it air dry. I’ve had the best results using that method, but honestly I think the cream might be too heavy for my hair. I’ve also tried to use the same brands hair gel to get a cast and then diffuse. The results for that was worse.

I have tried a mousse before but I can’t remember the brand I think it also might have been not your mother’s also. I have generally just been told that’s a good brand so I stuck with that. I’d be willing to try a mousse again because in theory I feel like that’s what should work best in my hair???? I have no idea though.
