We removed the drive list because we had users buy drives that were on the list and have issues with them and they felt we should compensate them for those issues because we had recommended the drive. Drives that were on the list still perform just fine and updated versions of them are also likely to perform just fine. One of the key items is random access performance of the drive which most thumb drives don't do well at but adopted storage demands. After that, emissions in the 2.4ghz spectrum is the next issue to watch out for and finally, thermals, some drives that pass 1,2 end up shutting down because they get too hot.

We're adding a feature to shut down USB drives in a future release but that will only be for non adopted storage drives. When you do adopted storage, part of the OS and apps run on the drive which run during sleep so the drive needs to be kept alive.
