If you’re going for something other than performance, I’d get a Mack or Wessex (I currently play a Dolce and the only better horn for ensemble playing that I’ve been seated next to was a Wilson, but they’ll run you around 5k for a used horn). You could also go for a Yamaha Neo, which has a nice dark sound. I know for a fact that the Dolce is a modified YEP-642 clone and I believe Mack uses the same outline as well. If you’re going for performance and want a horn well-suited for solo playing and aren’t a stickler for quality control, Schiller is a very cheap option. It had a decent characteristic sweet sound as it’s a Besson stencil. Otherwise, you may be able to find a used Besson sovereign (very characteristic sounding horns) for under 4k if you look hard enough.
