New Horizon Zero Dawn Gameplay

one thing that really bothers me about games like this is the lack of freedom and realism with melee attacks. the melee systems in melee heavy games rarely give us many options. take a game like The Witcher 3 for example.. it's usually just primary attack, secondary attack. you push the button once and the player does an over the top spinning slash move. what if we just want to do a simple jab, or a quick slash without the spin? i really wish more games had more complex melee.

it could still be 2 buttons, but you could add different modifier buttons.. for example: tapping the button will give you a fast attack, holding the button could give a different attack, you could also maybe hold down one of the triggers and do the hold/ tap method to get entirely different attacks. we could also have directional attacks: moving the character in different directions gives different attacks, as well as not moving the character in any direction at all.

it just feels much more satisfying when you can create your own combos with different button combinations instead of being limited with 1 or 2 buttons that give little variety, and every move is a flashy over the top spin move. that being said, i'm not entirely sure that this game doesn't have a creative melee system.. but from the looks of the video it doesn't look all that creative. the game still looks nice though imo.
