PR degree

I'd actually probably do a major in business instead of just a minor, and maybe do a comms minor. It will likely give you more opportunities for jobs and internships. I'm married to a computer science major, and my best friend was a business major. I was a PR/communications major. Not everyone can do computer science. If the passion for programming isn't there, being successful in it is going to be a struggle. My friend says just about anyone can make it through a business program though. Not to say it's super easy, just that it's different from computer science and engineering.

PR can be a hard field to get started in if you don't have a safety net. Both my husband and best friend got nice paying internships while they were in college. All of my college internships were unpaid. They were either technically volunteer positions, or I got "paid" by getting course credit. There are paid PR internships out there, but there is a lot of competition for those positions. And upon graduation, it's pretty common to have to take a temporary low paid internship/associate position at a PR firm. If you do well after a few months, then they'll often hire you on full time, but not always. Sometimes they just don't have the headcount.
