On the lack of innovation in software

Yes, but closed loop control systems are few and far inbetween, especially team specific ones and not the premade ones provided for the team.

What the fuck do you want? Do you seriously want at least a few teams at every event to revolutionize control systems? No. That doesn't happen. Things stay the same because they function and they function well. You don't fix something that isn't broken. I have never met a team that uses the prebuilt control systems other than the prebuilt drive code (driveTrain.mecanumDrive_Cartesian, driveTrain.arcadeDrive, etc).

FIRST likes to claim that FRC students will be the leaders of their generation, when in fact 99.9% of FRC alumni weren't even the leader, socially or amiccadeally, of their class. The very brightest of students aren't in FRC, they are at ISEF.

  2. Yeah, nobody in FRC goes to any prestigious schools. Nah, we haven't had anyone get full rides to Colgate, Boston University, or Cal Berkley. Nor have we had any ivy league grads, or mentors that were on previous teams who self-taught themselves multiple AP courses in high school. You seriously sound like a whiny little fuck who is upset that not everyone is as "competent" as you.

How I gauge a successful year in terms of software is how much we expanded our own personal abilities, not by silverware.

Then how can you judge another team's ability? You say that its sad when some teams can't even get the most basic of autonomous working - who the fuck cares? It's not your team. You don't know if their one and only programmer has never even opened up an IDE before, let alone learned the language. You don't know if that team had 2 weeks of cancelled school due to weather (welcome to the northeast), so they couldn't test very much at all. You don't know if their only programming mentor left the team before that build season.

Why is it that 2872 teams competed this year, yet the team numbers go up to 5400s? That's barely a 50% retention rate.

They skip every other number now.. and they have for years... Holy shit. They do it for when a team splits up, so that the two teams can have very similar numbers. They also skip more than every other number sometimes as well.
