PsBattle: Felicia Day heading to the Hogwarts Express

Not really. I hate the term SJW because it obscures what really goes down with these types.

On one hand you have people that might mean well and bring up racism or sexist themes, social issues etc. On the other hand you have people that are missing the point of political correctness and start telling you you're a racist or a bad pet owner for seemingly no reason at all. This "SJW" horseshit is nothing more than a derogatory name for the latter group, and is now being used to discredit anyone that cares to comment on any social issue.

I see where you are coming from, but come on, "Men's Rights Activists"? Taking any of those people seriously is just dangerous and irresponsible. It would be different if I had said "The League of Conservation Voters is full of shit" or "The ASPCA is full of shit". I'm not going to waste my time taking something seriously that refuses to take REALITY seriously. It's not like these people have a real agenda or even real adversity to face- it's a reaction to misunderstanding feminism and the stereotype of radical "feminists" that don't want equality (which exist and are equally undeserving of your attention, rather than your true, egalitarian feminists).

It's not as if men's rights have ever or will ever be rescinded upon. Go look up some YT videos of these people if you think I'm just being ignorant. My larger point here is that stupid people exist all over the spectrum, and just because some people might fit the SJW bill doesn't mean we need to tune out rational discourse just because it attempts to be politically correct. We are quickly reaching a point where it is frowned upon to hold an opinion that could be construed as having a social agenda, and movements to educate about sexism, racism, and equality are being rejected as if they are instead misguided tumblr rants.

In video gaming especially now, after the gamer gate clusterfuck, it's pretty much impossible to complain about sexism or racial stereotypes in gaming being problematic without being crucified as a "SJW". There are plenty of cohesive and balanced arguments that should be put out there, but are shot down instantaneously by a brigade of people that think they are doing the right thing when really they are working against progress and accountability.

My fear is that this type of behavior will begin to override the massive progress we have made in calling out racial issues (like police brutality against blacks and casual racism) as well as gender based ones. If you haven't noticed, pop culture over the past few years had made a huge sweep to redeem itself from a history of sexist portrayals and reinforcements of stereotypes. 2 or 3 years ago "make me a sandwich" and "women's rights are stupid" jokes were all the rage. If someone were to air something like that now they would be crucified, and for good reason. Society made an attempt to make things right, and it doesn't need any more convincing to keep doing what it used to.

The SJW myth is really just another form of McCarthyism or the Red Scare. Replace "SJW" with "Communist" and it's just about the same. It's an attempt to guard against a real danger (being far too politically correct to the point that no one can have an opinion) but its completely reactionary and irresponsible to lump anyone with a "liberal" opinion (calling out racism, sexism, etc) as some idiot that doesn't understand political correctness. It protects ignorance and malice, and serves to destroy any credibility that being a concerned citizen of the world brings you. It also opens the door for bizarrely stupid and ethically dubious groups like MRAs to being taken seriously.

So sure, it might be hypocritical of me to call all MRAs dumbasses, but when people act like I'm suddenly some douche with a radical agenda for calling out racism and sexism just because a bunch of stupid gamers decided to get in fights on tumblr with idiots of their own caliber, I don't much care about taking people seriously that don't deserve it; nor do I feel I owe it to people that would definitely not do me the courtesy of hearing me out. It's not as if I just heard of them and am passing instant judgement; they really are a misguided and regressive group of people that want to ruin all the progress women have obtained over the past century. If you haven't noticed, the republicans refuse to pass an equal pay law and have already passed a 20 week abortion ban (it'll get vetoed, but still). This is not the time to be holding ridiculous and oppressive opinions.
