ESPN Just slandered the entire GG movement... "angry, toxic, dangerous"

Little late to this, and haven't read all the comments - so apologies if I state anything already posted.

  • 1) Due to his business ventures in the gaming world, Schilling himself was an active pro-GG supporter on twitter when the movement first began. Not sure if that's still the case now. It's incredibly shoddy 'journalism' if the article bashes GG while not even realizing or commenting on Schilling being involved in the movement. Was this stated in any way?

  • 2) Starting in the early 2000's, Espn as a whole's business practices started to slide towards 'clickbait' segments and articles both on tv and in their other media properties. After suffering heavy backlash and viewer loss to their flagship program - 'SportsCenter' - over a number of years, most of Espn's media and 'journalism' interests cleaned up their act. They still have tabloid-type programming and media interests, but have been smart enough to market these programs as what they are - tabloid. That way people who embrace such media can watch these programs, and Espn's networks can air them without alienating the whole of their target audience.

  • 3) This 'article' is most likely part of the tabloid variety and represents the views and biases of the author. Espn itself is now extremely large and diverse - one article or program hardly represents the views of many who work with Espn or Espn the business entity. If you're displeased, I can assure you that contacting the Espn ombudsman with your thoughts and concerns would be extremely effective. Audiences of Espn's various media have had a tremendous impact on Espn's media plan and programming style both by their respective viewing habits and contacting the Espn ombudsman. Also, Espn has televised gaming events and programs in the past.

  • 4) I am white male. I am from the southern part of the US. I am conservative with libertarian leanings. I am a Christian. I am an ex-jock, and I love sports. I also love video games. I am a proud GG supporter.

All that said, we have an incredibly diverse community here. A large reason why I have been drawn to GG is that it has brought together many diverse people who share a common goal and some common interests. It's been really refreshing to not have people automatically classify me as 'evil' just because of what I look like, where I'm from, or what I believe in, or what I enjoy.

Even though I differ from a lot of people involved in GG in many ways, I believe in valuing and respecting others' beliefs and opinions. I believe in agreeing to disagree, and in discourse while appreciating the person(s) I'm communicating with. I believe in judging words and actions, not people - not how they look, how they identify, what they are capable of physically, or what they believe in.

If you had a recoil moment from me listing any of my identifiers then that is a 'you' problem. Some of you here are doing exactly what you accuse Ghazi and Anti-GG of doing: judging a large subset of people because of who they are, what they do, or what they enjoy. Shame on you.

Blanket statements and vilifying large subsets of people is just the tops, isn't it? /s
