Ideally the president should be someone that does not want to be the president but chosen by the people as most suitable to do the job.

I know that its not realistic to have a president like that especially now since the desire to have that position is one of the most important factors to get the job. Another one is having a lot of money to fund the campaign. To be extremely rich requires also selfishness. Or the party has to get funding from billion dollar companies who in return will have their demands once in power.

The system is designed to serve the already powerful in the pursuit of more power. The people can vote what they want and have the illusion of democracy.
