Reflections by Kenneth Williams, one of the eight Arkansas Death Row inmates facing execution this month

Here is what Kenneth did:

  1. He kidnapped two college students (boy and girl) at gunpoint while they were taking pictures in a parking lot. After forcing them into a stolen car and robbing them, he took them to an ATM machine and forced them to empty their checking accounts. He then forced the girl to take off her panties and forced them guy to take pictures of him touching her. He then took them to a remote area and shot them both several times. She died at the scene. He managed to crawl to a road and get help (survived).

  2. The same day he murdered the girl, he robbed and murdered another guy (he wasn't caught for this until years later, more below)

  3. Five days later, he was caught. He was tried and received life without parole for the murder. When the verdict was read, he turned to the victim's family members and laughed at them, saying, "You thought I was going to die, didn't you."

  4. About three weeks later, he broke out of prison. He then robbed and murdered an elderly farmer. He then stole a car, which lead to a high speed car chase with the cops, during which he wrecked into and killed a 24 year old kid. When he was cuffed, he told the police, "Boy, that was some good driving."

  5. He was subsequently convicted for the capital murder of the old farmer and the felony murder of the 24 year old kid, which landed him a death sentence. At it was not until this point that, all of a suddenly, he started to feel remorse. Funny how that works.

  6. After conveniently "finding god" after his death sentence, he admitted to killing the other man the same day he killed his first victim. Yep, he wanted to "come clean" about his murders, but, of course, not until his fate was sealed and he had nothing to fear about revealing yet another murder.

Now, the reason he says that he killed all of these people is because he did not "have god" in his life. Apparently, if you don't believe in magical gods, then you will go on mass murdering rampages by default (oddly enough, there are some religious lunatics that believe this crap).

This is not due to a "lack of god"--it's due to a lack of empathy. There are plenty of good folks in this world who don't believe in gods but are upstanding members of society. This guy--at his core--has it in him to needlessly and violently harm others. He doesn't care how it effects others because he lacks empathy. But instead of owning up to his own mental defects, he blames it on the absence of magical gods.

I am against the death penalty ... as it is pretty much state sponsored bloodlust. But if there ever was a case of someone so deserving of execution, this guy is right up there.
