Respecting Indigenous spaces

As a Métis person who has been through University, I can tell you 100% that there are absolutely First Nations only and Métis only scholarships/bursaries etc. Yes there are also mixed scholarships, but thats a bit irrelevant when they dont make up the majority of funding.

Most Universities and colleges have a set amount of funding and the hard truth is a lot of then dont actually use it all and when they dont use it all they have to return it at the end of the cycle.

Ive spoken about thus at length to a university in BC, a university in SK, and a University in QC at which I was a visting student to two and a full time student at the other. Advisors all told me the same story, that they have a surplus every year of funding specifically for indigenous students that if they dont give out they cant use.

Also, being FN does automatically mean your the most deserving indigenous person. Lazy people, for example, exist in every race. If one indigenous person is working harder and making more sacrifices than another indigenous person, they are more likely to get awards.

The point is your argument objectively doesnt make sense when the majority of funding comes through the government via the schools programs, band/nation funding, and FN or Métis specific scholarships.

Then, yes there are some mixed scholarships that you can get, but the mixed scholarships are the tiniest part of the funding.

I know, I went through this for years and worked with other indigenous students including other Métis, First Nations, Inuit, and Mixed.

Ive never heard of an authentic Métis person taking away resources that could have gone to a First Nations person outside of the general concept of picking the right candidate that is in need.

So no, this doesnt really have anything to do with First Nations spaces.

Socially the internet provides more than enough social space and has made more than enough room for everyone to be heard.

Financially the bulk of support for education is clearly seperated, and non education funding is also clearly seperated via government funding and programs.

Culturally we share a lot of heritage and space because thats the one way in which we as inidgenous people are connected, so it makes no sense to try and force isolationism when we come from the same places. The Métis, Cree, Ojibwa, Assiniboine etc. lived side by side for generations and were a part of the Iron Confederacy together and faught and died beside eachother. So yea, cultural space overlaps, thats normal.

Also, yo should look up the phrase gatekeeping because saying you think you should decide who needs to step back and who needs to step forward is pretty much the definition of gatekeeping.

Again, not a personal attack, just saying thats literally what it means.
