Is it right to say you're against animal cruelty if you still eat meat/animal byproducts?

as cruel as this may sound to a lot of you, these farm animals are raised for human use, may it be draft or meat or other byproducts. the industries capitalizing on these animals won't stop because of high demand, and ultimately the numbers will always win. or even if demand dwindled, these industries are already so established and intertwined with many others. and farm animals have already served this purpose for hundreds or thousands of years.

this angle of guilting people that consume animal products and byproducts won't work, there are too many consumers out there (and educating them would be more effective anyway). so i truly believe the main thing that people should be calling for is the ethical treatment of farm animals. eating meat or using animal byproducts isn't cruel, but the source of these products can be and that's what we should be focusing on. fight more, protest more!

but i am optimistic that we will get there someday, because the number one thing i hear in any of my animal husbandry classes is, "consumers now prioritize animal welfare." innovations and teachings of today are focused on the comfort and health of the animal, and that's a step in the right direction.

i will forever wish factory farms, puppy mills, and all similar facilities a very pleasant burn in hell though.
