It’s No ‘Iron Fist’ — Why ‘Into The Badlands’ Is The Martial Arts Fantasy To Watch

I recently got Into the Badlands and I love the show. I just finished the first season and I found the series to be very entertaining. The main character is likeable (love Sunny), the secondary characters are awesome (Quinn, Tilda), the cinematography/visual design/atmosphere is amazing and finally, the fight choreography is exceptionally fantastic.

On the other hand, I tried to keep an open mind about Iron Fist but after finishing the first season, it pains me to say this but I did not like the show. There were a few good things about Iron Fist though. Colleen Wing is definitely a standout character and I loved the scenes with Claire Temple. However, I didn't like Danny Rand at all. I think that this issue mainly affected my enjoyment a lot more than I realised. In addition, I found that Daredevil was a lot more daring and ambitious in the way that I hoped Iron Fist would have been. When Daredevil brought a level of finesse in its dialogue, characterisation of villains and its fight choreography in its first season, Iron Fist just does the opposite. The writing really hampered a lot of the dialogue and the story-line was quite unfocused at times. I could have liked the show a little more if the the fight choreography was great but unfortunately, that was not the case. Unlike ITB or even Marvel's Daredevil series, the fight scenes in Iron Fist was just unexceptional at best. There was nothing topping the likes of the Daredevil fight scenes like the Hallway one or many of the fight scenes in ITB.

To make matters worse, the pacing in Iron Fist was unbearably slow and at times, even worse than the second half of Luke Cage and Jessica Jones. By the end of the show, I was just disheartened at how the writing and dialogue lowered the quality of an adaptation and one, which I was really looking forward to watch. Initially, I did want to blame most of the show's problems on Scott Buck. Yes, he was responsible for the creative direction of the series but I believe that if Netflix renews the show for a second season, that they must address these issues in-depth. I hope they find another show-runner who can bring the potential of Iron Fist into the forefront. That said, I am still looking forward to The Defenders which I hope will be a great show.
