Should Meta Knight be banned?

I don't think you understood the point of my post. I wasn't saying MK doesn't deserves to be banned, because he definitely does. I'm saying whether or not he deserves to be banned is irrelevant atm because ruleset changes won't affect a game when nobody's hosting tournies for it.

We need to get tournament frequency/entrants back up, then once we have a stable playerbase we can worry about changing the ruleset.

You're also mistaken about why he should be banned. The "If MK is banned, (inset character here) will just win" is flawed because * The argument isn't that he should be banned solely because he's the best in the game, it's because he's the best in the game by such a large margin, and his presence stagnates the metagame by invalidating numerous characters (TL, Lucario, Peach) and mandating that numerous stages be banned. If MK was banned, Brinstar/Rainbow Cruise could be legalized and then like every character would have a near auto-win CP against ICs, making them much weaker and arguably no longer the best character in an MK-banned ruleset. Olimar can't reign supreme because he still has to worry about ICs on the more static stages. All the other top tiers have tons of evenish MUs and some losing ones. Additionally, ICs and Oli both have numerous even/evenish MUs and arguably lose some (Oli losing to Falco, ICs losing to ROB), and this number grows on certain counterpicks. No other character will reign supreme like MK did, unless maybe we ban him and switch to the japanese stagelist (where ICs would reign supreme) * Rofl at DDD winning with MK/ICs out of the picture. You really don't know much about the Brawl metagame do you?

Lucario and Pit don't go even or even close to it with MK; for both of those characters, MK is like their worst/2nd worst MU. Fox and Pikachu go close to even, but that's not the same as even; Nairo is undefeated against ESAM, and I've never seen any top MKs lose to a Fox player except for Yui beating Kakera once.

Even if there have been major events where MK didn't win, he still dominates the top 4-8 placings of each event (except SKTAR 2 which was by all means a huge outlier). Genesis 2 was MK dittos GFs, same applies to Apex 2014. Apex 2013 had 4 MKs in top 6, Apex 2012 had 3-4 in top 6 (and was won by MK), etc.

Florida had at least one good MK player (Seibrik), depends on how you want to define 'good'. He was better than NR if you're going to bother mentioning him. Additionally, using the argument that top players of other top/high tiers will beat mediocre MK players serves no purpose; mediocre MK isn't the problem, top level MK is.
