Soldering practice

Have been soldering since I was about 8. My Dad owned an audio shop. Make sure you get some soldering paste, it helps the solder run at lower temperatures, clean your tip if you get dry solder buildup. We used to just heat and shake the soldering gun towards the floor to shake off the buildup. Watch for "cold" solder connections, the solder should always look shiny. If it has a dull appearance you will have a poor connection that can separate inside. If you get a cold connection you can reheat the solder and use some soldering wick or a "solder sucker" to remove the old solder. Always silver the tip of the soldering gun/iron by applying some paste and a little solder to get a nice shiny coating.
