[Spoilers Outlander] Has anyone else tried reading the books and been unable to finish?

Like I said, it differs from fan to fan! I can only go from my experience reading the books. I finished the first three within a few days, even kept them on my desk at work (got busted a few times reading when I was supposed to be working... so technically I put my job on the line because I couldn’t put those books down! Not really obviously but you get the idea) and was just enthralled to the point of obsession. But DOA just didn’t grip me like the previous books. It took me weeks to get through, it felt like a chore I had to complete to get to the next part. FC was even worse, I’ve been reading it for literally months. Truthfully I haven’t even finished because I realized I was skimming more than actually reading. I really tried, but DG’s excessive lugubriousness and dozens of pages devoted to describing Bri’s milky boobs put me off. Plus so many characters to remember - I had to make liberal use of the Outlander wiki just to keep track. This made it hard for me keep interested. I had the same issue reading GoT and had to dog-ear the appendices in the back because I had to refer to them so often.

Ultimately it’s personal preference. These books were really boring to me. But they weren’t for you, and millions of others. You’re right that OP should find out for themselves, but they did ask for other perspectives!
