[Spoilers] Season 3 Episode 1 - "The Tortoise and the Hare" (S03E01) - Episode Discussion Thread

I'd love to see a third train and I'm hopeful it will happen. But I do not agree that Layton is necessarily screwed without one. I think if he can return with the climate model and proof that there is a warm place, then he will gain enough popular support that Wilford will have to cooperate.

The problem is, at this point, is he's got nothing. Well, okay, he has Asha. She's proof that there is life out there. The problem is she's hails from a haunted North Korean power plant. Not exactly the paradise Layton envisioned. Minor wrinkle.

I think you can see where I'm going with this. They're going to lie their asses off. They're going to recouple and tell people they found a warm place and Asha is the proof. She will back Layton up. The endgame here, is Layton is hoping that when they actually go to "New Eden" (the place in his visions that he will find on the map but will not be able to reach with just one engine), it will actually be habitable.

This sets us up for an interesting season, where the pirates are conflicted regarding the lie, and Wilford is seemingly cooperating but fast figuring out the ruse. All the while, there IS another train out there, but how it might factor into colonization, or what happened to Melanie, is anyone's guess.
