Hm, this is actually a harder question to answer than you’d think. In reality most people wouldn’t really know how’d they act in that position.

Me personally, I actually relate very heavily to both Subaru and Rem. Subaru’s penchant for forgiveness and just overall being a nice guy. And Rem’s insecurities and capacity to love.

Honestly, I do personally believe I could forgive her. I prefer to look at people for who they become. If I can help someone become better, no matter who they are or what they’ve done, I will always do it. I guess people can say that’s not how normal humans work, but I think that’s wrong. I don’t think there is a normal or correct way people should act. But that’s just me.

I do also really understand why others would hold it against her, but I also don’t feel it’s that weird to choose to forgive her.

I know Rem very well to know that if she learned of what she did to him in a past loop it would destroy her. As insecure as she is with her crippling low self esteem, she would hate herself and wonder why Subaru is still able to care about her.

(You can ignore this next part, it just talks about two fanfics I really liked)

There are actually a couple fanfics that play with this idea.

One has Subaru actually live through that loop and and Rem becomes guilt ridden and hates herself and even self harms. Rem never gets over that guilt but Subaru chooses to love her and tried to help her love herself more.

Another one I read is different as it’s a Reader x Rem fic, but he went through the same things Subaru went through(Subaru is still in the story and has the same role, the reader character just has more scenes with Rem), even went through the torture with Subaru by Rem. In that Rem saw his memories and saw the all the times she killed and tortured him.

All really interesting scenarios.
