Tight Five

Respect for supporting some pals from Austin

It's pretty hard to watch people doing intentionally shitty stand-up. The ironic detachment doesn't actually transcend, no matter how much anyone mugs. Ultimately, you're still delivering material you don't stand behind, and every punchline distills to "isn't stand-up as a whole shitty?".

Maybe it's a West-coast thing, and maybe I'm the butt of the joke for thinking stand-up doesn't have to bomb intentionally, but this resonated with me as poorly as Tim Heidecker's "hour". I get that some people are too cool to try writing jokes, but I'd wager there's no way ironic comedy ages more gracefully than actual 80's dogshit like Kinison. I guess I'm not the target demo. I genuinely wish your pals the best of luck, they're probably better than this.
