Is it true to avoid coasting in neutral as much as possible?

Absolutely! NEVER coast! This is illegal and dangerous. Coasting does NOT save petrol! It uses more petrol. You lose control of the vehicle, increase the chance of a skid and if you were being evaluated, that would be an instant fail. This is a HUGE pet peeve of mine! I make sure my pupils never do this. The way I teach, coasting is not possible. This is why tell people to look up 'dvsa rule 122'. This is a clear explanation of why NOT to coast. No matter what country you live in, this applies.

Coasting when you are in second gear to a stop is fine. You are already going slow.

You know I do NOT nor advocate coasting from a higher speed. As an ADI, I must do and follow the laws. Some on this site will do and advocate coasting. I cannot imagine why doing this. I will NOT do this, ever.

I answered the question and stated why I do and feel the way I do. I may get flamed by some for my post. Asbestos suit is on. No attack in any way to the poster. He is asking a question to get answers. A good question for anyone else who may wonder about this.

I will tell anyone the proper way to stop from a higher speed if asked.
