My Brother in law tells us a story at every camp out which he simply calls the Windamere story because it's about a monster in the Windamere mountains of Canada. My brother in law says that it's true but it is third hand info. His Aunt who lives in Salt lake city claimed that it is the story of a returned missionary from her ward and supposedly this missionary shared his experience reluctantly when he was asked about a gnarly scar that he returned home with.

I'll tell it to the best of my knowledge and I'm sorry if there are holes, I don't remember names but for the sake of the story I'll create alternative names. The missionary who I'll call Alex became friends with a man, Rick who was possibly converted or at least attended the LDS church in Canada where this missionary served. They both had a common love for hunting and before this young missionary was supposed to return home his new friend Karl invited him to go on a hunting expedition with some of the best big game hunters in the world. These were men that were part of this big game hunting club had lots of money and would often get together in various locations throughout the world to hunt big game. He said that they paid big money to go on these hunting parties and they would put prize money in a pot for the one who could kill the largest game. They were excited to gather in the Windamere mountain region after hearing a particular story of a man who we'll call Karl who had attempted to hunt in what was considered to be sacred ground to the Native Americans that lived nearby. The story of this survivor is as follows, Karl was invited by a friend Daniel to hunt the Windamere territory with the promise of returning home with decent game. Since nobody ever hunted there without permission from the natives the two men went to see an Elderly native American Man, An Indian Chief who knew the area and was invited to accompany the two on this expedition. Because the old Chief knew the history of Windamere he did not want to take them and even warned these two men that hunting there was far too dangerous. He told them that if they attempted to hunt in that territory he didn't think that they would make it out alive. The two hunters were convinced that the old native American was simply superstitious and or protective and didn't want other hunters on their land so they were detered by the warning and were determined to go. For whatever reason the Old man took them to the edge of this sacred land which was fenced off. Refusing to go beyond the fence. He warned them once more hoping to change their minds but the men were adamant. It happened to be the end of winter and the snow was still deep but the men had the necessary gear and set off. They made their way through what may have been the only opening on the fence and ignoring the many " Do not Enter!!!" Signs which were posted they set off. They hiked a distance to the Windamere Lake. It was there that they set up camp and then Karl had the idea for them to split up and each circle half of the lake and meet up on the other side. was not very comfortable with this plan but he went along with it.
