Weekly Discussion #109.2: Messerschmitt Bf 109 E

Ohhh I did type E-4/N. My tablet browser just makes text disappear with a "/" symbol in Reddit text boxes for some weird reason. People know which plane I mean.

The only reason I mentioned the engine was because of some recent discussions I've been in about what it 'should' have compared to how it actually performs. The WT announcement and data sheet says it's an E-4/N (but not the in-game stat card) and the wehraboo's claim it has the right DB601N power in the local host numbers... but it's clearly not performing anywhere near an F-1/F-2 which should definitely have that engine and whose aerodynamics weren't so improved to account for that much speed over the E-4/N we supposedly have. It simply seems a little slow to me as it (historically) shouldn't be having problems outrunning Spit Mk IIb's and OP Buffalo's at equal energy states like it currently does.

On a side note, I believe the regular E-4 had the DB601Aa and not the A-1. Early productions runs of the E-4/N also had the Aa which made me wonder if this is the engine our E-4/N got since the devs have pulled this on us before where they used the earliest and not the latest engines mounted in the same plane models. The DB601Aa and DB601N also have the same 1,175 PS rating and the DB601N doesn't get boosted until you add C3 fuel which we don't have as a mod or appears to be accounted for like with the F's which could be the issue. Who knows with WT FM's when they're based on sekrit docs and constantly being tweaked, nerfed and broken.

Anyway, I'm all talked out about 109 engines. Our "E-4" is what it is and I'm generally ok with it... even with the top end speed being a tad low IMHO. It otherwise has great accel/decel, climb rate, maneuverability, guns, gets me a nice KDR and it's fun to fly.
