I completely agree.

I think the thing is, there are certain comedians such as Matsumoto (and I think Hosei too to some extent) who genuinely do know how to be funny. But it absolutely is a business over there, where people who aren't naturally funny think that by learning a few tried and tested comedy routines at comedy school they will then become "professional comedians".

Those "gags" they all seem to have, where they do some kind of signature move... those are never funny - ever. No exceptions. They are indeed very cringe.

So yeah, it is awkward and weird when on gaki and in this subreddit in general I see so many non-gaki comedians doing "traditional", I suppose, Japanese style of comedy and I just don't find it funny at all.
