What's the real deal with glass enclosures?

The deal is, a mesh enclosure makes most sense when you consider a chameleon’s captive needs. Airflow is key. They spend their days high in airy treetops.

The misinformed understanding that humidity is important to an adult chameleon is where glass becomes dangerous. You have people running misters & foggers while (usually) also using a 75-100 w “basking bulb.” This creates, in effect, a sauna like environment which is actually very unhealthy for an adult chameleon and will lead to respiratory issues.

One could safely house a cham in glass with fans for a proper chimney effect. I just simply wouldn’t. There are too many potentials for things to go wrong, and mesh enclosures are less expensive.

Mesh enclosures allow for maximum airflow and a gentle gradient of heat. Airflow is already limited indoors, so my belief is that this is crucial.
