When did the Mughal empire exactly starter being oppressive towards Non Muslims ? Akbar is regarded undisputedly as a extremely tolerant king? So why is Aurangzeb hated today as a severe oppressor of non Muslims?

Part 1:Destruction of Hindu temples

Aurangzeb was extremely notorious for his policy of temple destruction.

Counting only major temples ,then Historian Richard Eaton's careful tabulation shows the destruction of 80 Major temples in India from the year 1192 to year 1760. 15 of these major temples were destroyed during Aurangzebs reign

Aurangzeb destroyed three extremely holy Hindu temples namely the : 1:Kashi viswanath temple 2:Kesava Deo temple 3: Somnath temple After destroying these temples he built large 'Mosques' in their places.

In 1679, Aurangzeb ordered destruction of several prominent Hindu temples that had become associated with his enemies: these included but are not limited to the temples of 1:Khandela 2:Udaipur 3: Chittor 4:Jodhpur.

Aurangzeb ,being a fanatical Muslim,on learning that at Sindh, Multan ,Thatta and particularly at Varanask: the Hindu Brahmins attracted large numbers of indigenous local Muslims to activities he considered not appropriate for muslims. He ordered the Subahdars of these provinces to demolish all schools and temples of non-Muslims.
