5 things I wish I would have known when first starting my Etsy store.

2) Diversify.

I am TOO dependent on ETSY and 80% of my sales are Google searches (or so says ETSY, I am paying them a small fortune now in off site ads every single day) which indicates to me that I will do just as well, if not better with my stand alone site... But I am so swamped I have not yet had time to put my energy into the Shopify. All this to say, ETSY is a fantastic place to start but terrifying if you become dependent on the income from it. A difficult customer or a competitor could get my shop closed if they ever bring back that EDR - which they probably will.

(But, as a shopper on ETSY I have had awful experiences this year with sellers so I am more sympathetic to the stance ETSY is taking on behalf of customers ---which surprises me).
