About 11,000 cases of COVID-19 in BC healthcare workers since pandemic began

Oh god. I’m so sick of the “Did they die OF COVID-19 or WITH COVID-19” crowd. So edgy.

If a cancer patient dies in a car accident the cause of death is not the cancer despite it being an underlying condition. They die as a result of the car accident.

A death caused by a car accident with someone who has COVID-19 would be classified on the autopsy based on the physical trauma that killed them. Not as a COVID-19 death.

If someone catches COVID-19 and they have an underlying health condition, and they experience the more drastic effects and it ultimately kills them, their death was caused by COVID-19. Even if they had a terminal illness, their death was caused and hastened by COVID-19.
