You actually are transphobic if you'd never date a trans person

Not gonna vote on this either way, I mostly disagree but I think that some of the discussion around this misses a lot of the nuance.

Full disclosure, I'm a transgender woman, and I personally don't think I would be offended if someone didn't want to date me because I was trans. At the end of the day, people can't really choose or control their preferences. I think the race-preference thing is genuinely a pretty valid comparison but I also don't necessarily think that's indicative of any underlying bigotry, either.

However I think that there are definitely some bad-faith people who kind of use "their preferences" as if it were some kind of magical shield behind which they can hide to fling vitriol with impunity. Granted, that's probably a case of the shittiest people being the loudest on the internet, but, idk.
