Okay on the assumption you are going to smoke anyways (which is what I am getting from this) I will recommend a few brands and which ones to stay away from. Rule 1 people.
Greens
I smoke Pall Mall Greens regularly because they are more cost effective and the menthol is more noticeable than Newports imo. Mavericks are just a shittier version of Newports made by the same company. Wings and Waves are cheap shit cigarettes for low income pack-a-day smokers.
Reds
If menthol isn't your thing, again, Pall Mall reds aren't half bad although I prefer Marlboro's Reds. Again, Maverick is a shittier version of Newports made by Lorrilard so just stay away from them. You can get Pall Malls, which are cheaper and somewhat better.
/r/Cigarettes Frequently Mentioned
This is a sort of meta-reddit analysis, but typically this website has a connoiseur effect where subreddits get really into having a complex or sophisticated opinion on even stupid little things. I would not recommend trying these first because it is kinda like drinking fine wine without a developed taste. Snobby? Yes, but I'm trying to give you advice here.
Maybe, try bumming a Wings or Waves or Maverick off someone before you delve into these because they will show you the lows before the highs. It is all about perspective. If I were to give myself Camel Turkish Royalty when I was still religiously smoking Newport Menthol 100s I would puke. When you get to this point, the recommended packs I see mentioned are:
Marlboro No27- mild taste, nice pull, very good in my opinion.
Camel Turkish Royalty- my second favorite cigarette to Pall Mall Greens, number one non-menthol cigarette in my book. A blend of Turkish and Virginia tobacco, it has a very distinctive taste and is very smooth. I would recommend this later on after you have tried other ones.
American Spirit- I'm not too crazy about these but they burn really slow and have no additives. They taste good too, not my favorite though.
Lucky Strike- no experience with these, do not have an opinion.
If anyone has anything to add to this, firey criticisms or denunciations, feel free.
