The only "rough draft" I've made was when I had to write, like, an 80 page research paper on original research over the course of a semester. Of course I wrote that in stages. I even used an outline (and by "outline" I literally just mean multiple spreadsheets full of info), bc you kinda need to for a paper that big, otherwise things get sloppy really quick and you lose track of what you've already talked about, what you need to talk about, etc. But even then, it wasn't really a "draft" thing. There were revisions, and I wrote it in stages, but there wasn't really a distinct line between "first draft", "second draft", etc. It was more of a massive conglomerate that just kept growing.
