I am just getting into Star Trek and was wondering why it feels like the culture of the humans hasn’t changed since the 20th century. Is there a reason for this seeming cultural stagnation?

you've just exchanged one form of servitude for another....welfare and inner city gang life...super high crime/poverty and piss poor education systems unequal to that of other areas. I didn't say things haven't changed - just that when you look at where blacks are compared to whites and other races in this land of 'equal opportunity' - it isn't much of a step up..more like a side step. Anyone who can't see that is fooling themselves. Slaves were dependent on their owners and the chains have just magically disappeared for chains of welfare, broken family's, drugs, crime and high black on black murder rates which go ignored by those communities. If you think that is real freedom and progress then I feel sorry for you...
