Am I the only one who thinks Regal is almost cartoonish level of evil?

I am re reading the book now (I am at the first) and I understand it better. He was raised by a narcissist mom who made him believe he was better than everyone, she was hateful to others and raised his son the same way, with way too much self esteem. She was jealous of everyone who had better reputation or more money, she wanted to be the number one and never accepted she wasn’t. She has transposed a lot of her own frustration to her son.

I didn’t understand it some years ago, but now I see it more. I don’t feel that we need to know more about him, I can totally picture him rejecting everyone because he feels that they are not good enough for him to be around, it is said he flirts a lot with women so he tries to get attention from every one he can (attention w*ore) and is frustrated that no matter what he does, chivalry then verity come before him. He wants so much recognition that he becomes horrible.
