Amateur MMA fighter taps out for his opponent

There are no openings once you're in a position like that against a peer or better fighter. You're going to get pummeled. You keep insulting me and arguing about what a great fighter you are. Cool story. Jeremy isn't that guy and you clearly can't be objective.

There are, and I clearly pointed them out, but you refuse to acknowledge them. I'm not insulting you, nor saying I'm a great fighter, I'm pointing out the extreme lack of knowledge you have on the subject. There's nothing wrong with that, especially if it's not your thing, but you're wrong about this. If we were having this conversation in person I could show you the options available from there. Since we're not, I suggested taking a few classes at a gym and asking about this position.

By the way, for the whopping 27 seconds that they were on the ground, Mike only maintained that position for a very small amount of it. He was very quickly scrambling to ensure his leg wasn't caught. That's the problem with this position. It's obviously a horrible position to be in in a street fight, it's also not a good position in MMA, but it's absolutely survivable, and able to be capitalized on in MMA because of the amount of space you're giving the bottom person. You have to create space to get most submissions and sweeps, and standing up the way Mike did now also opens up your legs to submissions as well, along with more sweeps. It also puts you more off balance, and makes it easier for the bottom person to control your movement.

Is Jeremy a guy that could beat Mike on the ground? We don't know because we barely saw any work on the ground. What we did see at least shows that he wanted the fight to be there, that Mike wasn't able to maintain his position for long before being worried about a submission, and Mike was actively trying to prevent the fight from going down the rest of the time. With that said, based on the little bit I saw of the both of them and a guess, I'd say Mike was a mediocre striker and Jeremy was a shitty striker, while Mike was a shitty grappler and Jeremy was a slightly less shitty grappler.

A lot can happen in a fight. I had a fight where I was clearly the better fighter technically. Unfortunately, it was a period of my life where I was partying and drinking too much, not training or dieting enough. Combine that with the fact that I had to cut 22 pounds the night before the fight, for weigh-in that was the same day of the fight, because I stupidly believed I could recover in the 10 hours between the weigh in and my fight. I completely destroyed the guy the first round, the second round started out the same but I started gassing partway through it, and the last round I was just completely gassed and he ended up winning by decision. Shit happens, stopping a fight because you hit the guy a few solid times in the first round despite him still being eager to close the distance and work is a shitty thing to do.
