AMS Referendum on JDUC Redevelopment Fee - 51% Vote No

But this reno was going to add space for students to study and use

The reno was going to add or maintain the current level of study space. The plans were fluid remember, nothing set in stone. I think prioritizing study space in every promotional item would have brought more yes votes. The fact that their major stance in practically every setting was "Wow, look at how horribly we managed our student life centre. Please give us money to construct a new one for us to manage"

there's large swaths of the JDUC and connected facilities that are unusable or sealed off right now that would have been opened.

Maybe the money we spent on a skylight should have gone towards opening them up. I'm sorry, but having a position of "Look how we didn't do a great job prioritizing funds for our last redevelopment project" isn't going to acquire much of a vote of confidence from anyone listening.

And yes in fact the JDUC is in far worse condition than any of those other buildings.

Have you been in Kingston Hall ? Jeffrey ? Because I am sorry, but this just isn't true. There are leaks, major accessibility issues, and these are classroom building. This is where students come to learn.

if you're a student with accessibility needs who wants to ever access their student services or hang out with any of their friends in one of the most popular buildings on campus

The JDUC is no where near the most popular building on campus. And again accessibility, do you not care that in the majority of lecture halls a person in a wheel chair literally doesn't get to sit at a bank of desk with their friends? In good portions of Dunning and Kingston they get awkwardly placed to the side at the front. This again is a classroom building. People come here for education, and our educational facilities are deeply failing people with accessibility in the same way the JDUC is failing these students.

Sure there are other buildings on campus that need some improvements, but they're at least mostly functional.

You seem entirely tone deaf. The other buildings on campus, the ones that have a direct impact on the education of the people who attend Queen's are a hell of a lot more important than the JDUC.

The JDUC is falling apart pretty much constantly.

So students are suppose to put a group that managed a building into disrepair in charge of a newer nicer facility? Have you gone into the refit bathrooms in the JDUC recently? They aren't even being taken care of very well. Its been a year and a half since they've opened and there are already massive problems with them. Why isn't the AMS and SGPS all over PPS to get these facilities maintained better? Why aren't they managing the site they already have well?
