Anyone living under the DACA or know someone who is? Help me understand.

To start, I am not, nor do I know anyone enrolled in DACA. This is just my two cents based on what I believe is right.

Politically, I have no idea what the "right" answer to DACA is. However, I do feel strongly that on a humane level, deporting all the Dreamers is NOT okay.

You say you're a US citizen, born and raised and have never been out of the country, right? Let's pretend that you actually aren't a US citizen. In fact, you have been out of the country once, but it was when you were really little so you don't remember. When you were 2, your parents decided to come to the US to escape violence/drugs/wars/etc. and give you a better life. Now, you're a grown person, maybe you're a teenager or even in your 20's. You speak English fluently, you've gone to school and graduated, you have a car, a drivers license and you are contributing to society at your work every day. You have built relationships, friendships and are part of your community.

Then someone's like hey, you're not actually a citizen and you need to leave this country and go back to where you came from. But this is all you've ever known. You're not from home country you're from the US and your life is here. But it's too bad, DACA is rescinded and you are deported to a country you have no recollection of, to a community you've never met, to a place you may not even speak the language of, all because of a decision that was made completely out of your control when you were young enough to still be shitting your pants.

I do not believe illegal immigration is okay, but it's not the fault of these young people that they were brought here illegally by their parents when they were far too young to know what was happening. DACA may not be a permanent or perfect solution, but I don't believe in punishing children for the illegal decisions of their parents. How is that fair? How is that justice? I just can't get behind the idea because if I happen to be one of them, I sure as hell would hope the US would give me the chance to stay.
