I have this (perhaps naïve) goal of learning at least one language from various major language groups. Learning Swedish will help me understand all north Germanic languages, like Norwegian and Danish. Learning German will help me understand most of the surrounding countries’ languages, like Austrian German and Swiss German. Learning Spanish will help me understand most Romance languages.

Out of all Slavic languages, learning Polish seems to make the most sense. It will help me understand many other Slavic languages like Czech, Slovak and Ukrainian. Poland is also the largest country out of these in the EU, so maybe there could be interesting job opportunities in the future. Also Poland is a cool country, I have a few friends there and I would love to be able to speak Polish with them.
