I'm pretty sure I had a bad reaction to AHA, but I don't know if I've overexfoliated or not. Here's what happened so far: After two weeks of using AHA twice a week (started off with once per week for two weeks), I think that may have induced a purge/breakout. I was worried because I was getting red/inflamed zits along with clogged pores on my forehead ( an unusual area for me), so I stopped using the AHA for a week, thinking it was due to irritation, not a purge. I decided to try applying AHA only on one side of my face after that week, and another week has passed now. I've gotten a few more small inflamed zits on both sides of my face, and my AHA side is still looking the same as the side without it. My face also feels drier than usual and others have noticed it looking shinier... Looking at those symptoms, does this mean that I have overexfoliated? It's been 3-4 weeks of me "purging" and 6-7 weeks of AHA use in total. Should I stop using AHA?

I usually don't break out, but starting this summer, I started breaking out more in general. It's mainly clogged pores around my nose, a small area right under my cheekbones, and my laugh line area. That's main reason I bought AHA in the first place--to help clear my clogged pores. But after doing some more reading in the sub, I think BHA probably would have been a better choice. If I do stop using AHA, would BHA be my next best option for taking care of the clogged pores?

Let me also mention that I have teenage skin. So another note, since my skin is so young, is it okay if I'm using acids in the first place? I probably should have confirmed this before I started in the first place... T_T
