Asked three times if Trump's judge comments constitute a "racist statement," Mitch McConnell won't directly answer.

I'm no expert and will defer to whatever actually works, but it seems that there are a number of things that would reduce the number of accidentally and violent shootings without reducing access.

(Also, at the end of the day, gun control is a very emotional topic, but it's not high on my list of priorities. Like republican's say, cars kill more people. We should do more to make them safer, like we did with cars, but from a numbers perspective, I'd rather go after any number of other issues).

Requiring all guns to be sold with a trigger lock seems like low hanging fruit. Even if the person could request to not buy it, just make it an opt out situation. Or require extra insurance, like a motorcycle helmet laws.

Closing the handful of loop holes also seems like a no brainer. The laws are already there.

If you've shown that you aren't a responsible gun owner, you should have to take safety classes. So background checks.

I'm not overly concerned with stopping mass shootings, like the ones that make the news. Tragic and awful, but a small percentage of gun related deaths. You are never going to stop a crazy person from going on a rampage. People do it with swords.

I would just put into place the sort of laws that we have with cars. Basic safety features and requirements enforced across the board.

Another, less popular idea, is a national gun registry. If you get caught carrying a gun that isn't yours, or that you aren't qualified to carry, then you are fined.

Again, just like cars. If you don't have a license to drive a semi truck, you can't drive a semi truck.

Of course, lots of people have big, Constitutional disagreements with my thoughts on the matter, which is fine. In probably wrong and wouldn't mind if no movement was made on this matter for the foreseeable future, as sad as it can be.
