Australian news actively discouraging travel to Bali

Something I've noticed is 2 - 3 times a year the media posts some shit to discourage people to go. Drug related arrests, the bloody volcano or 'bogans' playing up.

I've also noticed (more in Western Australia) that there will be an equal amount of media coverage, encouraging people to travel within the state or interstate however no one addresses the costs.

I've booked a holiday next March for my wife, 2 kids and myself. Flights and accommodation cost $1180 for 9 nights staying 4 star in Legian with breakfast and return flights.

For me to travel interstate or even within my state it would cost 1600 return just for flights and 900 for a cheap caravan park or 2 star shit hole for the same time.

The choice is obvious...
