Automatic Mattress Compression Packaging

This is how the majority of Ikea's mattresses come.

I needed a new mattress and endured the high-pressure sales at a local mattress "superstore". Got fed up with them when I realized it was ridiculous to get talked into taking out a line of credit to purchase at $1500 mattress plus the $100 delivery charge they wanted to tack on.

Went to Ikea, bought myself a spring mattress with memory-foam top layer for $250. It came vacuum packed so I took it home in my 4-seater compact car. Didn't even need to fold down the rear seats to fit it in. Carried up a flight of stairs myself.

The only issue was how to get rid of the old mattress of course. Luckily our state is one of 20 that has a low cost (& sometimes free) mattress recycling program wherein they pick up your old mattress for free.

My new mattress may not be a $4000 tempur-pedic, but it's certainly very comfortable and I smile each night I sleep in it thinking of what I'll be able to do with the $1300 I saved.
