Snow Storm Shuts Down City Operations – January 4, 2018

Today’s winter snowstorm has resulted in the closure of a variety of City of Fredericton operations.

Fredericton City Hall and related administrative offices will close at 12 noon today (January 4) due to the storm. This affects non-essential employees only.

Fredericton Transit will make its last run from Kings Place at 1:15 pm, today (January 4) running to the end of the various transit routes.

The Fredericton Indoor Pool will close to the public at 12 noon, today, January 4, 2018. This includes all related swim lessons and free swims.

All City arenas will close at 12 noon today, January 4, 2018. This includes all hockey games and other activities at the facilities. At this time, arenas will reopen at 7 am on Friday, January 5. The Nashwaaksis Field House, Odell Park Lodge, Killarney Lake Rotary Lodge will also close at 12 noon. The Stepping Stone Senior Centre and the Fredericton Senior Centre on Johnston Avenue will close at 1 pm.

Due to the snow storm, recycling/garbage collection may be impacted. Crews will do their best to collect materials, but if materials have not been picked up / or do not get picked up today/tomorrow, please bring them in and hold for next week.

City residents are reminded that an overnight, on-street parking ban is in effect. Parked cars interfere with snow removal and may be towed.

As the storm progresses, snowplows will continue to concentrate on keeping major streets open. Unless absolutely necessary, residents should consider staying off the roads.

Clean-up operations will begin once the storm is over. Priority will be given to major routes, as well as sidewalks in the downtown.

The public’s assistance is being sought in cleaning out fire hydrants. The property saved could be yours.

The City of Fredericton’s Emergency Measures Operation (EMO) is monitoring the situation. Any decisions about impacts to municipal services for Friday, January 5, 2018 will be made at a later time.
