Can we talk about noise? (rant)

Pits are extremely attached to their pack, with you supposed to be the pack leader. I love meeting pits for the first time because it's a chance to show the owners and the dogs the best way to approach ANY dog - I ignore them for a few minutes. No eye contact or physical acknowledgement of their existence at all, which reduces their rank within the pack (of people around). Once rank is established, pits are absolute sweethearts! <3

As much as we love our pets, the worse thing we end up doing is "humanizing" them (expecting them to understand human behavior). Without knowing your specific settings at home, the barking when you come home is probably due to them alerting of a trespasser in THEIR territory.

You can pay a ton of money to have them trained, but if you don't follow through with the training, your money is wasted. You aren't paying to have the dogs trained, you are paying for your training too.

I would advise reading up on some training specifics, and most important, have everyone in the house follow the same rules and commands that are established. One word commands are best. Depending on the breed, dogs can understand up to a 200 - 500 word vocabulary. Remember dogs are pack animals and not humans. Their feelings and understanding are different from humans. Dogs WANT to please the pack leaders. There are so many tricks to do that can help with the ranks of the pack. Just a few examples are not letting them eat before or while you are eating, don't let them out the door before you, don't allow head laying on your feet or lap unless you give them permission.
