Nope. I said that when someone tells you they're crying, there's no point in not believing it. It feels almost like an autistic response to say they're not crying, absolutely unconstructive. Also crying means tears. Every other description you came up with is of your own invention, considering nobody claimed more than tears.

If so, is that an appropriate reaction to dry emotionless data on Mr. Roger's hand knit sweaters?

Whether or not a reaction is appropriate is absolutely 100% irrelevant to the conversation of whether the reaction took place.
